A new month and a new future.
When people see me for the first time, they often ask me where I am from.
When I tell them I am Icelandic they get a gleam in their eyes, “OH Iceland is so wonderful” they say.
Well, the truth is Iceland is not wonderful anymore.
The nature is beautiful, I assume. I have not been in the country for a very long time and I assume with all the tourists somethings have changed.
When I tell them about the horrible corruption there, they don´t believe me!
Of course, they don´t believe because what the authorities in Iceland tell the world it how wonderful everything is!
I have listened to the prime minister often speaking to CNN and talking about how great everything is.
Now the book, “Besti vinur aðal” is out and at the moment it is just in Icelandic.
In this book the story of corruption in the country for decades is described.
It tells about how the people are put into different classes, how the Elite becomes richer and richer with all kinds of corruption, and how the Elite keeps the lover classes down.
There have been written more books about the corruption in Iceland but I think they have not been translated into other languages.
Someone said one of these days that we need to let the world know about the situation and talk more about how things really are.
Why do we not talk about the reality?
My theory is that people are afraid.
If they open their mouth they are treated badly, that is as far as I understand, a fact.
There is election soon in the country and people move from one party to another just like drinking water.
I listened to one of those politicians today, talking about why he went from one party to another, and why he chose the party he chose.
He said the new party he is joining is going to fight for the elderly and social improvement in general!
Unbelievable! This is the MIPFLOKKUR2
I wonder where they have said they are going to fight for the elderly and the poor ones.
The situation is devastating.
The government quit suddenly and there is not much time to prepare or introduce what the parties are about!
People will vote, at least some of them, and they will hope something good will come out of it
It will be interesting to see what the new government will do differently, the promises are flowing like milk these days, but the question is will the parties keep their promises.
We will see, the problems are huge in Iceland and it will take many years to mend the damage, the corruption could be, and likely is, in every party!
The prime minister now, has been the finance minister and had to resign because of corruption.
In civilised countries he would have to resign from the government, but in Iceland he just jumped into the prime minister position.
He is not the only minister who would have resigned in other countries. No, there are more of them and it just seems to be ok.
I left the country decades ago and I am never going back.
The only reason I am following what is going on in the country is because I get my pension for Iceland, where I earned my pension through 40 years of working in the country.
People don’t talk much about how the reality is, they are afraid.
No one can do anything to me and I have been writing about the situation for many years.
These last couple of years I have not done too much, and the reason is I simply gave up. There comes a moment when you see you are kicking the head into a stone and everything is in vain.
I hope someone, after reading the new book “Besti vinur aðal” will write to the world and let it be known how the normal people, the ones who don´t belong to the elite, are treated in a country where every body should live with dignity and have food on their table and roof over their heads.
In one of the rich countries in the world, no one should be homeless or starving.
The rich ones get richer and the poor ones get poorer, that is the truth about Iceland.
